The Camara Beach House
The Camara Beach House

The house looks old and traditional. High wood columns, capiz windows, traveza floors, adobe stones, wide sliding doors and sawali walls. But the azotea or the upper balcony is not so conventional after all. Nylon, fiberglass and pre-fabricated floors. The fusion though is a genius idea, giving an over-all harmonious look to the place.

The Camara Beach House at Botolan, Zambales is as lovely as its owners, Phillip and Ching Camara. My friends and I had the opportunity to be the Camaras’ guests for two days at their beautiful haven, which sits a few meters away from the rich blue South China Sea.

A private get-away home that exudes peace, calm and relaxation. The Camara beach house is interesting both in and out. A fusion of conventional Hispanic and post-modernist interior, the house is decorated with interesting pieces like a designed wooden Sungka, a charred wood mural, an orginal bul-ul sculpture, various magnificently woven native baskets probably from different places in the Philippines and a set of neon-pastel chairs for the dining table.

The Camara beach house is also complete with comfortable rooms and amenities. Two large bedrooms good for three-persons each at the ground floor, a suite for romantic couples at the side of the main house, a room for two or four at the second floor and a nice nipa hut for six at the yard. A table tennis and mini-basketball court for sports lovers and spacious lawn for nature-lovers. This is not to mention the organic gardens at the compound with green leafy basils, pesto, oregano, tomato and chillies.
