Zamboanga Golf Course, a taste of the South
Beautiful flora and fauna, endemic only at the Southern terrains of the archipelago, can be found in the so-called “City of Flowers,” the City of Zamboanga. The city was discovered by ancient travelers and was formerly named Jambangan, a Malay word for place of flowers.
At the heart of the city spreads one of the oldest but best golf courses in South East Asia. The Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park, an 18-hole championship course with par 72-6 and 404 yards. The front nine holes are designed on flat ground while the back nine holes are beautifully spread over rolling terrains. Numerous varieties of trees provide demarcation for the fairways. The golf course is a 10-minute drive from the Zamboanga International Airport.
The Beach Park is situated at the seaward fringes of the Golf Course. It occupies a stretch of about one kilometer and is dotted with picnic sheds/tables and food stalls. The golf course & beach park has a total land area of approximately 78 hectares.
And to add fun and color to your visit at the golf course, take a ride to Sta. Cruz Island, a 15-minute ferry from Zamboanga City proper along the Basilan Strait. The island is known for its pink sand and corals. (Story by Mini A./Photos from Phil. Tourism Authority)
