Despite her being one of the minority members in the Angeles City council, she’s tough. Assertive of what she believes to be at the advantage of what she calls “good governance,” former Miss Asia Pacific and Angeles City Councilor Maricel “Marang” Morales is all out to prove that she is not just a pretty face in the council but a resilient legislator.
In fact, Marang has just finished a crash course in Leadership and Development Managament Course at the Asian Institute of Management. They call themselves AIMYL 8.67, the graduates of Batch 8 consisting of 67 participants. She was able to take the course through the auspices of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan’s sholarship grant for the National Movement of Young Legislators.
Her inflexibility at the council is her exact opposite at home with her two kids, AJ (10) and Miccho (7). Marang is hands on with her children. After a failed marriage with former actor Ace Espinosa, Marang held all the responsibilities on the education and basic needs of her children.
After a stressful day at the city hall, she still manages to spend quality time with AJ and Miccho. Playing video games with them, despite losing most of the time is just one of their stuff. She sees to it that all homeworks are done prior to watching TV or simply playing with their transformer robots.
She cooks for them, when time allows her to do so. Or pre-cook some sauces for pastas which could be easily served through microwaves. Though typically choosy children hate veggies, Marang makes it a point to serve them in different recipes although her children are steak lovers. At their age, they would even suggest best serving sumptuous steak houses all over Angeles City.
Marang is preoccupied at home and outside, tending to the needs of her constituents, but she still finds time for herself. She sweats it out jogging at least thrice a week along the streets of Villa Angela.
And she has a lot of beauty regimen to start. She wears sunblock each time she goes out, and repeatedly wears it every after one hour of sun exposure. When playing golf, Marang see to it to wear sleeves and applies sunblock spray ( with SPF 75/moisturizer). And before she retires at night she washes her face off with gentle soap and put on night creams. Make up is a “no-no” for Marang, unless, of course there’s a need for it. Before she bathes, she applies salt scrub to exfoliate dead skin at least twice a week. And she applies lotion all over her body to get rid of skin blemishes.
Marang loves massage. And she goes to spas at least twice a week. She doesn’t shampoo her hair very often, to naturally let oil comes out and brushes it in different strokes. The things that she cannot live without are lip balms, wipes, sanitizer, shampoo and conditioner, and vitamin C. She uses make up for Asian people to compliment with our climate.
Most importantly, Marang believes that having peace of mind would give a person a long deep slumber. And no amount cosmetic products could replenish an eight hours of sweet sounding sleep. (Story By Rey Pineda/ Photos from Maricel Morales)
