In 1944, United States General Douglas MacArthur led the allied attack on the Japanese army that had conquered the Philippines. The campaign began at Red Beach, Palo, Letye. This is where Gen. MacArthur made his famous landing just minutes after the marines had secured the beach head. It was on this occasion that the famous general made the second half of his famous “I shall return” speech.
